Description
As an MFA/BFA graduate in painting, I had the opportunity to studied Art and Architecture in Venice, Italy. I loved seeing and learning about the great Veronese, Titian and Tintoretto who were considered to be the most important painters of the late Venetian Renaissance. I have my favorites but that is beside the point. I guess I just admired and tried to emulate their work that I was exposed to throughout Italy (found in private mansions, hotels, churches and museums). Prior to my training in Italy, I was fortunate to travel through and visit over 55 countries and museums, in my lifetime. What I gravitated to and inspired by were interesting landscapes and always engaging male and female portraits. Venetian art is renowned for all of this and more for its luminous colors and shimmering surfaces and this really excited me. While part of my learning Art program was copying different artists paintings and drawings this is not one of them. During my studies and overtime my drawings from museum exercises gave me the experience to explore and discover my own unique style.
I am one who likes to do things differently than others do. I am sharing two of my original paintings that evolved from that time in Italy. These are totally of my own creation using my own ideas and vivid imagination, use of color, different palettes, different brush strokes, different lighting, different angles, and an all out effort in blending layers for glowing. I chose to refer to my old drawings of young, beautiful Venetian, wealthy women similar of that of the great artists above produced. For they truly inspired me in their approach and techniques. I liked the challenge of painting just the head, side view, unique characteristics, exotic hair, use of jewelry and complementary skin tones. I love painting and doing different work to keep me sharp and interested and still with a fresh and new approach. Thank you.
